MUSIC MOVES YOU[TH] . 2022 . FRANCE

Music Moves You[th] was a 2-week workshop on how to bring music and sound into the core of any educational activity. Nearly everyone enjoys music, whether by listening to it, singing, or playing an instrument. But despite this almost universal interest, many educational systems (both formal and non-formal) are not bringing it as a part of their programmes and activities. Music is mainly seen as an entertainment tool, but it is actually a cultural, historical and educational phenomenon. A wide number of studies and research have proven the power of music in an educational and social context and we believe it is a vital tool for connecting with (young) people.

Together with artists and educators, we spent 14 days in the exploration of music and sound as a tool to facilitate activities and connect with others.

IN A NUTSHELL

Dates: 5-20 September 2022
Location: Burlats, France
Who: we selected 25 artivists who were interested in experimenting with music and sound as part of their future educational and collaborative activities. We were looking for youth workers and leaders, cultural workers, educators, music & sound artists and practitioners who would have liked to actively co-create the workshop with us!
Where from: Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Poland, Greece, Ukraine and Bulgaria

OUR HOME

We stayed in beautiful French rural Burlats, accommodated in a renovated former mill called Moulin des Sittelles. As we lived together for 2 full weeks, we also took collective care of the space: we were preparing our own breakfast, we were keeping the space clean and tidy and supported our chef in cooking for the whole group. At Nomadways, we believe in collective care of ourselves and creating a community while enjoying the project.

PROJECT

The workshop was designed in 5 main parts, building up a beautiful opera as a whole. In the Overture we spent two days into creating a bond among the participants. During our first Act, we made our first short Opera pieces in small groups and performed them in front of the others. Our Act II was about creating a sound publication and Act III to experimenting and putting together elements from Act I and II. Finally, during our Requiem, we reflected on our experience, we evaluated the project and learned more about the Erasmus+ programme - especially how to create such projects ourselves.

SOUND PUBLICATION

A collective piece that allows us to dive deep into our inner voices, to connect with playful exploration. Bringing in the sense of community, we will touch intimate sharing spaces, sound journeys and inner revolutions. The post-production and experimentation of impro, the unknown and the confusion, even the escape from capitalism and moon cycles, welcome all.
